Spring Plate Retainers.
Now you can control the torsion properly. The stock rubber bushings are good for stock motors on the street. But if you want to
add power then you will need to step up to urethane to help regulate the movement of your torsion. Now if you are moving up to
drag racing and wanting your car to go straight like most of us do, then you will need to support your spring plates even more.
The urethane is not enough and will give under the harsh launching conditions associated with drag cars.
VW Type 1 spring plates are designed to move but when it comes to going straight you do not want the
rear of the car trying to steer.

Look at
pic 1.
This is the right side looking down on the rear suspension.  The tires want to drive forward, forcing the spring plate to drive forward thus pushing on the torsion and so on.  But the spring plate bushing and cover can not retain correct control.  So the torsion is allowed to move and this gives your alignment forward toe-in.

In
pic 3 A lot of racers that are using swing axle cars like to add more camber for different reasons like:
To help the tires brake loose to keep the RPM's up and not bog the motor down.
Keep the car straight so that not all of the foward forces are applied.
To lessen the lift or front end from trying to come up.
Most important to save parts.  Yes a little wheel spin is your friend at the line.
pic#4  You can see the causing affects from pic 1 and 2 changing the correct angles your rear tires need to stay at. A car with
this type of situation will want to force the car  to the left or right, depending on the set up of your car. Not only is it scary off the line
but more so as you grab each gear.  I noticed I was getting out of shape every time I would grab second.  After switching to
urethane bushings the problem mostly went away.  Now that the car is getting faster its time for more support.   If you look at
the picture and imagine your driving forward but the rear of the car wants to drive beside you and not behind  you.
Now you know what is happening.
In pic 2
This time you are  looking at the right side rear
suspension. You can see how the spring plate wants to force the stock bushing  down and forward.
