Drive Your VW to the Race 9-1-12 to 9-3-12
So each year we like to go to Sacramento to race at Bugorama events. If you have
never been there its a huge event with a gigantic swap meet, massive car show, just
about every vendor you can think of and my favorite part............DRAG RACING! Lots
and lots of drag racing. Some of the largest turnouts in all the race classes. This year
its a special event for us drag fans, A pro stock gathering! The Bugorama group has
put out a call to all the pro stock cars to step up or shut up! (Well close to that!) but a
huge purse is on the line. How about $10,000 big ones? Well i do not race pro stock
so this is a perfect time to watch 10,000rpm combos race for 10G's! ($10,000)
So we will drive our VW's up to the event. I will take my 1966 Turbo VW FastBack.
Plan to get on the road Saturday 9-01-2012 at 3:45am from LowBugget shop. You can
join in along the way. We will make extra stops when going up and over the
grapevine. Take 5 fwy to the 99 fwy all the way to Sacramento. Gates open at 2pm so
there is no rush but our cruising speed is going to be between 65-70mph (actual
speed) but don't worry we will not climb the Grapevine at that speed!
This is not a race, it a cruise!
We will stop for breakfast on the top of the Grapevine in Gorman, gas up etc. We will
make more stops along the way and stop for lunch/BBQ in Manteca (about an hour
before Sacramento). We will make one more stop at a convenient store for goodies
before going in the event. You are on your own for dinner Saturday night.
Admission in to the track is $20 Adults and $5 for Kids 6-12 for both days. After
hanging out at the track on Saturday those who are staying at the host hotel we will
be meeting up at 9:30pm outside the vendors gate. (gates are locked at 10pm!!) You
can camp at the track if you like. We check in to the host hotel that night!
Sunday morning meet for breakfast in the host hotel. We will leave the hotel at
7:30am to head to the event. You can park out in the standard parking lot or pay $10
extra and enter your car in the car show. If your brave you can test your car on the
track and make a pass for $20 extra. After the event will go out to dinner, will take a
vote on the place and back to the host hotel for party time and pool-side fun!
Monday morning meet for breakfast in host hotel. We will be leaving the hotel at 7am
making a few stops for gas then stop for lunch at the base of the Grapevine. Again
we will cruise up and over the Grapvine making some cool down stops. Once over
we will brake off to our own caves/homes!
